Say Goodbye

We won't be seeing any of this in D-Town

Any remote chance of us getting Michael Finley has been obliterated. The Pistons front office used 3.5 of the 5 million dollar mid-level exception towards Dale Davis. I pose to you the question: What the fuck were they thinking?

Michael Finley is now heavily leaning towards Miami, who not only have their full $5 million mid-level exception reserved for Finley, but who created 20 different posters of Finley in different poses and put them up around the stadium. Talk about high expectations. Detroit hasn't done shit except piss away $3.5 million of that exception towards an aging player who has only played ONE full 82-game season in his 15-year career.

Supporters of the Dale Davis trade will no doubt claim Detroit needs a new Shaq stopper with the departure of Elden Campbell. If you actually watched all the games last year, you'd realize that Elden was rarely used. Against the Heat he averaged a measley 6 minutes and 17 seconds (rounded up) per game. Out of the seven games, he only had more than two fouls in two of the games. He didn't even eat up fouls. A Shaq stopper? Not really.

Davis for Elden? Meh

Supporters of the Dale Davis trade will no doubt claim he averaged 8.9 rebounds per game with the Pacers last year, but they should see that he only played 25 games with em.

He hacks better than a computer geek

We should've saved our money to bid for Finley, keeping any small flame of him coming alive, telling him the Heat are just hype, and that we knocked them off last year even though they were the favorite to win the Eastern Conference way before last season had begun. Now he's long gone.

Our other options are the veterans Latrell Sprewell and Allan Houston. Sprewell hates Pistons coach Flip Saunders and Houston hasn't been healthy enough to play a full season since 2002. Neither would be a good fit.

One out we have is Damon Jones, who was originally drafted in Detroit, but he'll probably go to Cleveland if Finley goes to Miami.

The only hope we have now is that one of our draft picks, Alex Acker or high schooler Amir Johnson show up as the off-the-bench shooter we need. Our draftee two years previous, Ricky Paulding, played in Europe and if he shows promise we could pull him back. Plus Carlos Delfino, who should've made the playoff cut over useless Dunkin' Darvin Ham.

Hope for the Motor City?

The thing that got me angry last year was everyone saying Carlos Arroyo was useless. I've been a supporter ever since he came to Detroit, but other people waver depending on what the media says. Everyone jumped on his dick when he made those alley-oop passes and no-lookers, but when he didn't perform the same and made a few errors, he suddenly became the most hated player on the team. People, Arroyo can shoot, he's like the all-time leading scorer at Florida International or has somesuch record. I just think the pressure gets to him and he's too unwilling to shoot when he's around all-stars. When he's around the other backups he tends to shoot more and he makes most of them, it really all comes down to his confidence level. He has to shoot more, and he can fulfill that role easily if he works on his self-confidence.

Shoot the goddamn ball Carlos

We really didn't need Salim Stoudamire. Drafting Jason Maxiell may have shocked everyone, but we basically got a junior Ben Wallace. When he was drafted the spotlight on him said he was a block monster, had a freakish leaping ability, and had to work on his offense. Remind you of anybody? Keep in mind we made it to the NBA Finals without a bench shooter. It sounds funny to say, but we needed to upgrade our defense. Compared to 2003, 2004's defense lapsed greatly. Maxiell is what we needed.

Grrar

I wouldn't mind Dale Davis coming to Detroit if it didn't mean losing Finley. He'll get more PT than Elden and have more of an impact, and strenghten our already fortified defense. I still don't think it's worth losing Finley, even if we only had a sliver of a chance of getting him.

Maybe it's just that our shooters are already there, they just haven't developed yet. We'll just have to wait and see. The only thing we know for sure is that there won't be a Pistons jersey with Finley on the back.

Michael Finley: Shooting his way to a Miami near you.
