musicvideocodes

So on Myspace theres a bunch of people with music videos on their spaces. I always thought there was some sort of super complicated HTML method of doing this, but it turns out there are sites where you can simply copy and paste HTML into your code. I'll use these videos to show what music I'm listening to right now.

First off is Kanye West with Diamonds. Kanye West's music isn't great just because of the awesome beats and smart lyrics he uses, but because he's unconventional. Unconventional in the way that he doesn't dedicate his music to gangsta shit, rolling in escalades, getting high, fucking bitches, etc. He raps about real world shit, the stuff that so called gangsta rappers tend to forget and ignore, like poverty, aids, and general racial tensions between white and black. In this case, Kanye directs attention towards the diamond mines in Sierra Leone and throughout Africa, where people slave away for hours with little food or pay, a situation which America tends to ignore. While diamonds may be worth a ton to us who can afford them, in reality there is a huge surplus of diamonds out there. The DeBeers company is a monopoly in this field, and thus can control the supply and prices.

In these days and times, buying a CD is a sign of ultimate respect and fandom towards an artist, and I actually bought College Dropout. I also saw Kanye live in concert at the Blast on the River rooftop party on Cobo's roof last summer. It was unbelievable, it was so crazy that Kanye told everybody we had to spread out because the vibrations of people jumping and screaming were becoming dangerous and threatining the intregrity of the roof.

Another hot track out by him now is Gold Digger, featuring Jamie Foxx sampling as the late and great Ray Charles, a fucking awesome song; I would put it up here but there is no video code for it yet. It's another must downl... err, song to buy off of iTunes. Kanye's new CD, Late Registration, comes out on August 30th, you can be damned sure I'm gonna pick it up.

Kanye West - Diamonds (From Sierra Leone)

Close your eyes and imagine, feel the magic
Vegas on acid,
Seen through Yves St. Laurent glasses
And I've realized that I've arrived, cuz
It take more than a magazine to kill my Vibe
